How to Wear a Face Mask With Your Hearing Aids
If you're going out in public during this pandemic, you need to wear a mask. It's been proven that masks can slow the spread of COVID-19, even if they don't stop the spread entirely. Most people can wear them without any difficulty, but some will have problems. For example, those who are hard-of-hearing and who need to wear hearing aids have run into issues with masks. Not only do masks muffle voices and make communication more difficult, but hearing aids can get caught in mask straps and get lost.
Since having a hearing aid is still no excuse to go out in public without a mask, here are some tips that will help you cover your nose and mouth without losing your hearing aid.
Know What Kind of Mask You Can Wear
The most common masks available are the ones that go around the ears, but there are others you can wear. One very useful mask type has straps that go around the back of your head. They don't touch your ears, so you won't have to worry about losing your hearing aid.
If you can't find a mask that goes around the back of your head, get creative with the masks that you have. If you can style your hair in a bun, you can put the straps around that. If you don't like to put your hair in a bun or you don't have long enough hair for that, you can wear a cloth headband with two buttons sewed into it. Put the headband around your forehead, and wrap the elastic bands around the buttons. Once again, they won't touch your ears, so you won't have to worry about losing your hearing aid.
What to Do if You Lose Your Hearing Aid
If you would rather be very careful when wearing a hearing aid with a mask, you might need to know what to do if you lose your hearing aid. First of all, don't panic. You probably didn't go far after your hearing aid fell off. More so, you can retrace your steps and zone off areas where you might have lost your hearing aid. You might find that it will be easier to find than you think.
